about

recorded in an apartment in Burlington, VT September 07, 2000. The first three songs were my mostly improvised of one riff musical interpretation of three poems of William Blake (1757-1827) and four of Richard Brautigan (1935-1984). They were done at an interesting transitional moment in my life. At 24, my musical explorations had gone to the purely improvisational, what i dubbed ".o improvisation" which involved constantly changing rosters of people and having no control over anything except through improvisational musical real time persuasion.

These tracks were more unique, although similar to the then contemporary approach for my attercop songs interpreting my own poems. It was a whole new thing using other words. The only other recording similar was the 1999 Railroad Pete "I'll Make your Soul Hungry" which was songs based on the poetry, prose, and unwritten songs of Woody Guthrie.

Releasing this a full 23 years later, "I live in the Twentieth Century" sticks out, not only because I took those words from the 20th century and crossed them into the 21st at the dawn of the 21st, but how the lyrics would take a whole new meaning the past 11 years since the birth of my child. When I see my child sleep, those lyrics take on a whole new context I never could have conceived when I wrote them.
These were lovingly remaster 3/2/2023.
